History of Ancient Art – Johann Joachim Winckelmann (Peyrusse Sources of Art)

A revolutionary study that analyzes Greek art not as a collection of objects, but as a living organism with its own cycle of development. Winckelmann was the first to apply stylistic categories to organize history. He is considered the father of art history and of Neoclassicism, teaching Europe to see the "noble simplicity and serene grandeur" of the Classical ideal.
